About Our Pub

Rooted at the heart of the historic and vibrant community around her, The Commercial stands proud as one of the last truly great locals in Wales.

We, as a family, have been custodians of this multi-award-winning independent free-house for the past  25 years.

Steadfast in our belief that a proper pub is the best place in the world to relax and have the most memorable time,  we pride ourselves on being the home of Great drinks, Great food, and Great service.

Great food, great drink and great atmosphere
Just had a great set of meals with the family and not for the first time. Food is always top notch (we had Steaks, Gammon, Pancakes and fish goujons). Atmosphere is really friendly and staff attentive. They also always have a great selection of drinks, currently a Bavarian selection due to Oktoberfest. Looking forward to booking a Christmas lunch

My wife and I visited today (the first time) for Sunday lunch, and we must say how friendly and welcoming the establishment was. The food was top notch (thank you chef) and the service we received was absolutely superb. Tasty food, lovely staff, amazing service and a great atmosphere....We could not have asked for more. It's 5 stars from us, and yes, we will be returning.

We stumbled across the Commercial Inn on a random shopping day with a friend to Risca, never been in before and heard it was lovely years ago as my husband had visited. WOW!! the place was spotless, the 2 ladies behind the bar couldnt do enough to help us (I have egg allergy) and the food was all cooked fresh and beautiful. I even rang my husband while I was there to tell him how nice it was and we must come again. Lush little Gem in Risca, if you're not sure, go, take a chance you will be pleasently surprised. Vegetarian options: Yes, Veggie menu available

Great place to visit, all staff are wonderful, great service food and drinks, lovely separation of bar and lounge plus a lovely sun terrace out front to eat or drink, well kept place, child friendly with clean and modern toilets too

It's a very nice pub to either have a nice meal or to go to to just hang out and enjoy yourself. You can play darts or pool too nice friendly staff .a real homegrown pub enjoy

I was at the commercial Inn yesterday on my own waiting for mot on car to be done.The staff were friendly and took time to speak with me i ordered a vegetarian breakfast and it was presented lovely and tasted good I had egg 2 onion rings in batter tom thick slices of toast mushrooms beans would certainly return 😋

It was my first time visiting this pub yesterday and I will definitely be visiting again. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted with a smile and a friendly "hello" . I had my 2 children with me and the bar staff made friendly conversation with them and made them feel comfortable. I was shocked that a pint of carling was only £3.60 which is a very good price compared to other establishments that I have visited previously. I didn't have any food but the menu seemed amazing so I will definitely be ordering some food when I go next

Well this was an unexpected treat. Stopped initially for some food, had the burger, was exceptional. I mean exceptional. Beer is beautiful, obviously take good care of them lines and cellar. Have been back a couple of times since as well.

Decided to visit after reading the reviews, and was not disappointed. The welcome was lovely, the food a definite ten out of ten, and the service was superb, and so friendly! Will certainly be returning! Thank you all for a lovely experience!

Great menu! Sunday Lunch was tasty, starters and desserts were also delicious. All freshly made to order. Staff very attentive and even the chef popped out to see if everything was ok! Great selection of ales, cider and gins too! Will definitely be back!

At the Commercial we prioritise your comfort, whilst retaining an atmosphere true to our proud origins. You can choose to relax either: inside, in our open-plan lounge and snug; or outside, on our heated patio with retractable built-in canopies and folding windows.

Our tremendous team are passionate about providing everything you could possibly want from a proper pub. When it comes to our Great Drinks and Great Food, they’ve tried it all, so make sure to ask our expertly trained, super friendly team, led by our fabulous manager, Louise, a Risca-resident who started her career as bar staff at the pub over 10 years ago.

From the Welsh heartland of Valley song, we love our music. All day, every day our state-of-the-art jukebox rotates the best tunes for you to chill out to. Every Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 6pm till close we are a party pub, playing the greatest hits all night long, whilst also frequently hosting the best local live music artists.

Our atmosphere is even more special on a match-day. We are your home of Welsh rugby and football, offering an unmatched viewing experience. Starting hours before kick-off, our jukebox belts out the most iconic Welsh anthems to get you up for the big game. We are dedicated to giving you the greatest drinks selection in South Wales at the most affordable prices.

Having uniquely retained our historic wooden-panelled bar (which is amongst the longest of any independent pub in the UK), we are unrivalled in serving seventeen draught beers, lagers, and ciders, from as many as fifteen different countries. Plus, many more options in bottles.

At The Commercial, we take our beers very seriously. Cask Marque accredited since 2002, we have continually featured in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide. For 2024, The Commercial has, once again, received the highest possible – 5-star rating – for beer and cellar hygiene.

As passionate proprietors of the finest real ales, we pour hundreds of different independent beers and ciders from our rotating cask pumps. And, if it’s craft for you, we’ve got the best collection from the best independent brewers on our dedicated kegs.

In addition, as displayed behind our bar, we source a unique selection of over 60 of the finest gins, spirits, and wines for you to enjoy.

Our Kitchen is passionately committed to creating the finest pub meals in the country, which can be enjoyed at the most affordable prices.

The Commercial’s Head Chef, Neil Tate, is a longtime Risca-resident who, having trained at the original Junction 28, has over two decades of experience working in and running some of the best food establishments in South Wales and beyond.

Using the best local produce, we keep our menus fresh, changing them every other week. In doing so, we seek to offer something for everyone to savour. Our Commercial Classics – always available – can be found on our chalkboards, and include the famous Commercial All-Day Breakfasts, Gammon, Egg & Chips, and Mixed Grill, as well as our local ale battered Fish / Sampi and Chips. Plus, much, much more!

Our Sunday Lunch is not to be missed. Our superb three-course menu changes weekly to offer locally sourced beef, chicken, pork, lamb, and fish. Another highlight is the sensational homemade desserts, which include bread and butter pudding, pineapple upside down cake, sticky toffee pudding, treacle sponge, and rhubarb crumble . . . to name but a few!

Due to demand, booking is highly advised, though some tables are always left to welcome walk-ins.
