About Our Pub

Rooted at the heart of the historic and vibrant community around her, The Commercial stands proud as one of the last truly great locals in Wales.

We, as a family, have been custodians of this multi-award-winning independent free-house for the past 25 years.

Steadfast in our belief that a proper pub is the best place in the world to relax and have the most memorable time, we pride ourselves on being the home of Great Drinks, Great Food, and Great Service.

Superb Sunday Lunch. Everything hot and cooked perfectly. The portions were really generous but we still managed to have desserts. The staff were very friendly and attentive. This pub has a lovely welcoming atmosphere and the service is great. Highly recommended.

We visit the Commercial most days for a cheeky pint after work or on a day off, it’s a really nice regular where we can play darts and chill out. The food is exceptional and very reasonably priced. Hats off to the chef and the staff at the Commercial Inn!

We recently held a joint farewell and celebrated a birthday at The Commercial — a group of 17 of us in total — and we couldn’t have asked for a better venue! The customer service was second to none, with staff who were friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming from start to finish. The food was great and arrived promptly — no small feat with such a large group! Everyone was well looked after, and nothing felt like too much trouble. We’ll definitely be back!

We had the most amazing time at the Commercial for our petite wedding! Just what we ordered, a mouth-watering Indian meal with lashings of great company and wonderful service from the gorgeous staff. We wish we could do it again! Xx

Great food, great drinks and great atmosphere. Just had a great set of meals with the family and not for the first time. Food is always top notch (we had Steaks, Gammon, Pancakes and fish goujons). Atmosphere is really friendly and staff attentive. They also always have a great selection of drinks, currently a Bavarian selection due to Oktoberfest. Looking forward to booking a Christmas lunch

My wife and I visited today (the first time) for Sunday lunch, and we must say how friendly and welcoming the establishment was. The food was top notch (thank you chef) and the service we received was absolutely superb. Tasty food, lovely staff, amazing service and a great atmosphere....We could not have asked for more. It's 5 stars from us, and yes, we will be returning.

We stumbled across the Commercial Inn on a random shopping day with a friend to Risca, never been in before and heard it was lovely years ago as my husband had visited. WOW!! the place was spotless, the 2 ladies behind the bar couldnt do enough to help us (I have egg allergy) and the food was all cooked fresh and beautiful. I even rang my husband while I was there to tell him how nice it was and we must come again. Lush little Gem in Risca, if you're not sure, go, take a chance you will be pleasently surprised. Vegetarian options: Yes, Veggie menu available

It's a very nice pub to either have a nice meal or to go to just hang out and enjoy yourself. You can play darts or pool too, nice friendly staff, a real homegrown pub enjoy

It was my first time visiting this pub yesterday and I will definitely be visiting again. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted with a smile and a friendly "hello" . I had my 2 children with me and the bar staff made friendly conversation with them and made them feel comfortable. I was shocked that a pint of carling was only £3.60 which is a very good price compared to other establishments that I have visited previously. I didn't have any food but the menu seemed amazing so I will definitely be ordering some food when I go next

Well this was an unexpected treat. Stopped initially for some food, had the burger, was exceptional. I mean exceptional. Beer is beautiful, obviously take good care of their lines and cellar. Have been back a couple of times since as well.

Great menu! Sunday Lunch was tasty, starters and desserts were also delicious. All freshly made to order. Staff very attentive and even the chef popped out to see if everything was ok! Great selection of ales, cider and gins too! Will definitely be back!

We are dedicated to giving you the best drinks selection in South Wales at the most affordable prices.

Retaining our historic wooden-panelled bar (among the longest of any independent pub in the UK), we serve seventeen draught beers, lagers, and ciders, from as many as fifteen different countries. Plus, many more options in bottles!

At The Commercial, we take our beers very seriously. Cask Marque accredited since 2002, we have continually featured in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide. For 2025, The Commercial has, once again, received the highest possible – 5-star rating – for beer and cellar hygiene.

As passionate proprietors of the finest craft and cask beers, we hand-select the best collection from independent brewers on our dedicated kegs and rotating pumps.

In the same vein, we source a unique selection of over 60 of the finest gins, spirits, and wines for you to enjoy.

Great Food

Our Kitchen is passionately committed to creating the finest pub meals, which can be enjoyed at the most affordable prices.

The Commercial’s Head Chef, Neil Tate, is a longtime Risca-resident who, having trained at the original Junction 28, has over two decades of experience working in and running some of the best food establishments in South Wales and beyond.

Using the best local produce, we keep our menus fresh, changing them every other week. In doing so, we seek to offer something for everyone to savour.

Our always-available Commercial Classics can be found on our chalkboards, including include the famous Commercial All-Day Breakfast, Gammon, Egg & Chips, and Mixed Grill, as well as our local ale battered Fish or Sampi and Chips. Plus, much more!

Our Sunday Lunch is not to be missed. We change our three-course menu weekly to offer locally sourced beef, chicken, pork, lamb, and fish. Another highlight is the sensational homemade desserts, which include bread and butter pudding, pineapple upside down cake, sticky toffee pudding, treacle sponge, and rhubarb crumble… to name but a few!

Due to demand, booking is advised, though some tables are always left to welcome walk-ins.
